Life is an energy-management strategy. Before genes, cells, or evolution, there were flows of energy driving matter into new patterns. We need to map the fundamental principles behind bioenergetics and metabolism as part of the collection of lenses on origin of life; the ways organisms capture energy from their environment, convert it into usable forms, and build everything from membranes to DNA.
